The Village of Gassin in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez
Since May 7, 1994, Gassin has been part of the exclusive club of "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France"
Gassin holds the unique distinction of being the only village within this prestigious association to be bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, from Spain to Italy.
Joining this association is no simple feat. A village must first qualify as a "small village" (with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants in its main settlement) and meet 27 stringent and precise criteria. These criteria evaluate the value and diversity of the village's heritage, the quality of its environment, architecture, and urban planning, as well as the strength of its initiatives to enhance quality and hospitality.
Once admitted, each village signs a quality charter, committing to continual improvement to maintain its classification. Every five years, the village undergoes a new assessment to confirm or revoke its status.
A comprehensive travel guide featuring all the classified villages is published by Éditions Flammarion and is available for purchase at the tourist office shop.
